The Tiv.

Put simply, my favourite place on earth.

The Tivoli, or The Tiv as it is affectionately known in these here parts, is a small place big on character. As much as I could go on and on about it, and for a short part I will, I could never convey entirely how awesome this place is and how much love I have for it.

It's an actual theatre house built in 1917 that regularly hosts concerts/gigs with a capacity of just 1500. So no matter who you're seeing, it's an amazing, intimate environment that feels like home. It's got red velvet benches, beautiful french mirrors, a stunning ladies room (yes, that's important), three bars, two levels, although the floor is better... shit, it's just awesome, okay? It also has a signed My Chem shirt framed above one of it's bars that it is absolute tradition to go say hello to whenever you are there.

A language of our own.

Ever had a moment where you felt like another species of animal understood you perfectly and tried to answer you back? If so, describe.

All the time. :) My dog and cat are both really good at reading me and respond accordingly. I guess the most noticeable times are when I am upset, they don't do any of their normal annoying stuff and just come and sit quietly by me and keep me company, watching me with their big doe eyes. I wish they could talk back just so I could find out what goes on in their heads.

Hide Your Kids, Hide Your Wife!

This was a real news report...

The Gregory Brothers auto-tuned it into this...

And now Hayley Williams, Jordan Pundik (NFG) and Ethan Luck (Relient K) have made this...

In case it was ever in doubt, Hayley is officially awesome.

Homme boys.

Rant.

There's apparently this group of mostly British male models who are collectively known as the Homme boys. Josh Beech, Ash Stymest and Luke Worall to name just a few. Truly beautiful young things covered in tattoos, complete with an 'I don't give a fuck' attitude. And the high-end designers LOVE them.

Formspring.

Hi there,

I held off on posting something about this, because I didn't want to whore it out, but I got a formspring! And guess what? I'm whoring it out. :)

Honestly though, I just like the idea of being able to ask questions and generate conversation. Probably the best thing about having this whole blog thing is that it's somewhere for me to post random thoughts and ideas, and hopefully get some feedback to reassure me I'm not completely crazy, but mostly just to share common interests etc with people who seem to get me way better than most people in my 'real' life do.

So anyway, if you weren't already aware, I got a formspring. You can ask me absolutely anything you want, and I promise to answer it as truthfully and candidly as possible. Also, I have no problem with anonymous questions (besides the obvious curiosity factor), so if you want to talk about anything at all, just use the box in the side panel and click away.

Anon, anon.

Are you ever going to finish Fuel This Flame? I'm just wondering. No pressure intended or anything. =)

Is this my conscience talking? :S

Well, whoever you are, thanks for the interest! :) I honestly intend to finish it one day, I always have. I never meant to just cut it off like that, life at the time just got in the way, I was going through a lot and then it just became this insurmountable thing.

I guess these days I have come to the realisation that I won't realistically be able to do an ongoing chaptered thing, but I would still like to give it some closure with an epilogue as such. Saying that though, I don't really know how or why or when. I do think I managed to leave them in a fairly happy place, so I have faith they are surviving there together until I somehow manage to get back to them and give them the ending they deserve.

Towards everyone that read and supported it, I do feel bad that it was never finished like I wanted. :( I hope one day to fix that, and maybe if anyone else remembers it at that point, they would get some satisfaction from that too.

Procrastination FTW.

Seeing this pic (clicky), made me make this...

My latest crush.

I have had this random hot tattooed guy's picture saved on my computer for ages.

 Photobucket

But today, I actually found out who this is. So, giving credit where credit is due... please say hello to my latest crush, Jonathon Kroppman.

1st Question.

Who's your favourite author, why, and whats your favourite of their work?

Yay, first question! *clapshandsinglee* Thank you for indulging me :) But such a hard one too!

I would have to say as far as poets go, William Blake is the standout. I don't really have a good reason why. One of my favourite movies ever is Dead Man, and I think just the way his poetry and themes was worked into that gave me such a deep love of his work. And W.B. Yeats, after seeing the movie Equilibrium (also one of my favourites).

As far as novel authors go, I don't really have a standout favourite. I went through a F. Scott Fitzgerald stage recently, but I wouldn't say he was a favourite. I don't really make that much time to sit down and read, so that's probably why poetry is sticks out more when I think of favourites. I went through a Twilight phase, but I don't really classify her as a favourite or great author, she just wrote an amazing hook.

In terms of favourite works, I don't really have any firm standouts either, more just particular lines that stick with me from various works.

Oooh, Shakespeare! I can't believe I nearly forgot. I know it sounds like a cliche, but I love pretty much all his works that I know. The St Crispin's Day speech is amazing stuff, not to mention Romeo & Juliet and Titus and Hamlet...the list goes on.

Being Productive.

Today I actually got off my arse and did something productive. Yay me! *dances*

Since I moved into my house, I have been trying to save up to buy myself a proper wardrobe. I have drawers and stuff and a hanging rack, but nowhere near enough to store all my clothes. So now it is more than a year later, and I still haven't come any closer to buying one, so my mum (having gotten fed up with piles of clothes always being on the floor and my bed) ever so kindly bought me these wire storage baskets from a garage sale near her place.

BECAUSE I AM.

Less than two years before he died, James Dean wrote the following...
"I'll be home soon. Write me please. I'm sad most of the time. Awful lonely too isn't it.(I hope youre dying) BECAUSE I AM."

The tattoos you deserve.

One of my strong beliefs is that you get the tattoos you deserve. To me, this means that the time, thought, design, sentiment and effort put into obtaining each tattoo is reflected through the ink in your skin.

This week Rhianna got a neck tattoo. Apparently it was meant to say rebel flower in French. Only in the French language, the noun comes before the adjective. So essentially, it says flower rebel. On her neck.

Cool.

 Photobucket

Thanks for proving my point, RiRi.

"Everyone gets the tattoo they deserve." - Fox Mulder, X-Files

UPDATE: Apparently Rhianna has come out and said in a text, “rebelle fleur translates to rebel flower, NOT rebelious flower, its 2 nouns so in that case fleur does not HAVE to be first! Fyi, cuz they will ask”. Yeah, cause saying rebel instead of rebellious totally makes it a non-describing word and therefore a noun. Unless you are claiming it's "rebel. flower." as two seperate entities, your argument is up to shit. You dun goofed. And I should really stop investing so much time into this.

Twitter.

My name is ripley and I'm a Twitter addict.

People may not know this but I have actually had a twitter account for over a year now. I think I set it up more to just secure the name than anything else, and it was forever until I actually went on there and sent my first tweet. Btw, I still feel like an idiot calling it that.

It's only through the establishment of this blog that I have been logging in to Twitter more often, firstly to promote my posts but now primarily to comment on things and keep in contact. But in the last couple of days, my interest in it has exploded. I don't know whether its the fact that I can now access it from my phone, that I have a fancy tweetdeck app on Babygrey (my laptop), or just the simple fact that its basic premise is so inherently addictive, but I can't seem to step away.

Maybe I will get over it soon, but for right now, I am fixated. I feel like I have missed the boat on this a bit as everyone seems to have been doing it long before me, but now I can understand why its so massive.

Plus its awesome for stalking.

Not that I do that. At all.

EDIT: Plus my name's not really ripley. I'm a filthy liar.

The Pov Food Plan.

So the premise of The Pov Food Plan (PFP) is that you can absolutely live on muffins, eggs, baked beans, peanut butter and mi goreng for a week. It pretty much covers all the basic food groups, right? So doable.

*Please note: this is a scientific experiment for research purposes and is in no way related to having to buy Soundwave tickets...

Oh Soundwave, the things I do for you...

Uriecute.

Lots of things in this world are cute. Puppies are cute. A dress can be cute. Lots of boys are cute.
But sometimes, something comes along that is in possession of such a unique brand of cute, it transcends the mere description of being called cute, and becomes URIECUTE...

R+J.

I was just watching tv and this song randomly came on. I haven't seen it for a few years and FUCK, just watch it. Sorry for the weird aspect, it was the only one I could find.

I fucking loved this movie hardcore when it came out and seeing this filmclip just bought it all back. I love, love, love this movie! The imagery is so, so beautiful and just so cohesive and an entire world onto itself. The story rips my heart apart every single time I watch it, and the whole thing is just so, so good. Leonardo (so would), Jamie Kennedy, Paul Rudd, Jesse Bradford and John Leguizamo... even Claire Danes was brilliant in this! The Shakespeare is done in such a modern way but still holds true, and even today I can quote lines and lines of prose from this movie. Baz Luhrman was a fucking visionary on this movie and it is still one of my all time favourites. I had just forgotten how much until now. I even think it is where most of my current obsession with religious iconography comes from. Not because of the religious context so much, just because it is so goddamn beautiful.

If for some reason you haven't seen this movie, you really need to. This is seriously grounds for friendship fail if you don't.

The boys! The boys!

Love is love.

I know I am not an American, but today is a red-letter politics day anyway.

A federal judge in San Francisco has overturned Proposition 8, which banned same-sex marriages, and has ruled that gays and lesbians have a constituional right to marry. He stated that Prop 8...
"fails to advance any rational basis in singling out gay men and lesbians for denial of a marriage license. Indeed, the evidence shows Proposition 8 does nothing more than enshrine in the California Constitution the notion that opposite-sex couples are superior to same-sex couples. Because Proposition 8 prevents California from fulfilling its constitutional obligation to provide marriages on an equal basis, the court concludes that Proposition 8 is unconstitutional.”
This makes me happy. Australia, take note!

30 Seconds to Picspam.

Through reasonings of complete insanity, last week I managed to do a quick fly down to Melbourne (omg!) and see one of my favourite bands, 30 Seconds to Mars, for the first time. Now, some of you may have read my previous post concerning my unhealthy obsession with Jared Leto, and even though it was awesome to see his flesh in the, um, flesh... suprisingly, the night wasn't really about him. It was about the band as a whole and finally getting to hear the songs I love played live.

Needless to say, 'twas most awesome! And to celebrate both this and the fact that the plane didn't crash to a fiery death on the trip back home, here is an exceedingly indulgent picspam of said concert! I shrunk the pics so as not to be too annoying to load... :)
