R+J.

I was just watching tv and this song randomly came on. I haven't seen it for a few years and FUCK, just watch it. Sorry for the weird aspect, it was the only one I could find.

I fucking loved this movie hardcore when it came out and seeing this filmclip just bought it all back. I love, love, love this movie! The imagery is so, so beautiful and just so cohesive and an entire world onto itself. The story rips my heart apart every single time I watch it, and the whole thing is just so, so good. Leonardo (so would), Jamie Kennedy, Paul Rudd, Jesse Bradford and John Leguizamo... even Claire Danes was brilliant in this! The Shakespeare is done in such a modern way but still holds true, and even today I can quote lines and lines of prose from this movie. Baz Luhrman was a fucking visionary on this movie and it is still one of my all time favourites. I had just forgotten how much until now. I even think it is where most of my current obsession with religious iconography comes from. Not because of the religious context so much, just because it is so goddamn beautiful.

If for some reason you haven't seen this movie, you really need to. This is seriously grounds for friendship fail if you don't.

The boys! The boys!

  1. *Sigh* ... Be still my heart.

John Leguizamo's role in this was stunning. Luhrman's only downfall so far has been Australia.

My opinion... set dresser and designer both deserve Oscars. Beautiful.

  2. Eh... In grade 10 we read romeo and Juliet... We had to watch the real one, which kinda sucked to be honest. I wish we could have watched this one, cause it does look beautiful :P
And Leo is such a cutie! I forgot have scrumptious he was when I was like 5. Haha!

Love it. Now I'm gonna rent it.

  4. K, this is the real one! All the others are just imposters :) And your teacher was a fool for not showing you this one. It's fantastic. I really hope you watch it as would love to hear your opinion. :) Plus everyone just needs to see it for their own good.

A, I am a huge fan of some of Luhrman's movies, like Strictly Ballroom, but Australia left me cold. Even Moulin Rouge was a bit iffy, although it did have some great scenes in it.

Cat, I love John too! His Tybalt was insane. :) I think The Pest was a bit too odd for me, but maybe I need to go revisit it. He was easily the best thing in Moulin Rouge (besides Ewan McGregor's smile!).
